Senior Grocery Buyer
Job Description Title:
Senior Buyer -- Grocery Procurement Basic Purpose and Function:
Responsible for overseeing the work of the buying team to ensure profitable procurement and timely delivery of products for assigned lines.
Works closely with Procurement Manager & Corporate Director, and Sales Managers teams to achieve the goals of the company.
Procures product in accordance with all policies and procedures established by the company.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities Maintain acceptable service levels and ensure in-stock on all ad product Review and react to any issues on the daily out of stock report Constantly review forecasts (regular, promotional, and seasonal) and react to any trends.
Ensure that established policies and procedures are understood and adhered to by all procurement buying staff.
Work to obtain inventory and turn goals on assigned buying desk.
Assist Procurement Manager in setting performance targets for buying team in relation to anticipated and actual sales and see that these are maintained.
Assist in establishing projected sales and profit quotas.
Participate in the formulation of broad policies and long-range goals, objectives, plans, programs, and projects of the Distribution Center.
Develop and maintain good working relationships with brokers, vendors, store operations, distribution center and division office personnel.
Reviews all product costs and marketing plan to ensure items purchased are at the lowest cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source, and urgency of need in order to meet marketing plan.
Conducts post-promotional reviews and analysis to determine if promotional requirements were met and if there were problem areas, develops solutions.
Conducts logistics planning processes Visits stores, as needed, to monitor programs, obtain store feedback and to assess overall implementation effectiveness as needed.
Approves Accounts Payable variance processes for assigned items to ensure correct prices have been invoiced and billed to stores.
Resolves store distribution issues by acting as a liaison with the warehousing and transportation department and store associates.
Maintains all necessary department files and records.
Develop, Train and mentor members of buying team.
Supports and implements corporate initiatives.
Skills, Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Degree in Business, Supply Chain, related field or relevant experience of procurement, negotiation, or supply chain is preferred.
Computer aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft office with a strong proficiency in Excel.
This is the senior level buying position, at least five years buying experience preferred.
Strong understanding of store operations and merchandising methodologies and practices.
Understanding of procurement, logistics and inventory management practices.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, experience in taking initiative and making appropriate decisions.
Planning and organizing skills.
Written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective business relationships within and outside the company.
Relationship management skills Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer.
Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
